The UAE has applied to be nominated for membership of the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

As reported by Hellenic Shipping News, the United Arab Emirates is preparing for second category membership (category B) together with 11 countries that are leaders in international sea trade.

The UAE already holds a top ranking for ports management and is ranked in the top three countries for the quality of its ports and sixth in port infrastructure.  If the UAE succeeds with membership of the IMO’s Executive Council, it will strongly enhance the UAE’s position in the global maritime sector.

This will lead to a boost of interest in UAE company incorporations from leading maritime companies and investors in the maritime community as well as marine-related businesses such as importers, exporters, ship repairing and ship refueling.
